A Log Book or Journal for Keeping a record of your finds and site research which will prove a valuable resource to make you more successful as well as producing a fascinating keepsake to look back on in the years ahead.
I always admired the metal detecting log books my friend Brian kept. He would make meticulous notes about sites and finds as well as adding drawings and maps that turned his logs into works of art as well as an invaluable reference that led him to more sites and better finds. I wished I had found the time and dedication to record information in a physical log book like that but I muddled through with a computer spreadsheet and paper files, which worked OK until finds mounted up and the memory started to fail. So when I lost contact details, forgot where I had found items and failed to schedule site visits, I realised I needed a log something like Brian had kept.
I looked at several metal detecting log books or journals but could not find one that covered both finds and site research, which suited my needs, so I developed one that worked for me and I am sure it will work for you too. Keeping a record of your finds and site research will prove a valuable resource to make you more successful as well as producing a fascinating keepsake to look back on in the years ahead.
